In 1998, Ibrahim founded Celtel, one of Africa’s first mobile phone companies, which he sold in 2005 for $3.4 billion.

At a time when many global corporations hesitated to invest heavily in African infrastructure, Celtel pioneered accessible mobile services, fundamentally changing how millions of people connected, did business, and lived.
Expanding his business footprint into investment, he also became the Founding Chairman of Satya Capital Limited, a private investment firm explicitly focused on nurturing African enterprises.

In 2006, after stepping away from the day-to-day telecom world, Dr. Ibrahim turned his full attention to the continent's most pressing challenge: leadership. He established the Mo Ibrahim Foundation with a clear, unapologetic mission to support and reward good governance.
